Activists spray red paint over billionaire Walmart heiress’s superyacht for a second time
Activists sprayed red paint on the superyacht of Alice Walton, the billionaire heiress to the Walmart empire, for a second time in 2020. The activists targeted Walton’s 361-foot vessel, ‘Rosehearty’, in protest against the Walton family’s refusal to raise wages at Walmart stores. The protest is part of a larger campaign that seeks to raise the wage standards at the retail giant, where the average hourly wage is still far below the national average. In a statement, the activists accused the Walton family of “disconnecting [their] wealth from the rest of society”, and called on them to “invest some of [their] wealth in the people and communities where [Walmart] makes its money”.
