Autumn arrives earlier than ever for Starbucks and others with pumpkin menu items

Starbucks has become the latest in a long list of companies to jump on the pumpkin bandwagon as they begin offering pumpkin products such as pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin cream cold brews this week, well before the official start to Autumn. Other companies such as Dunkin' and Caribou Coffee are also introducing their own pumpkin products. This early rollout of pumpkin-flavored products is a trend that has been seen for the past few years. Companies are capitalizing on consumers’ increasing demand for fall-themed items, while also taking into consideration the weather patterns that are being seen in many parts of the country. With some areas in the country experiencing continuing warm temperatures and little rain, companies are aiming to capitalize on the remaining warm days with fall-themed items. While consumers eagerly await fall flavors, some health experts are cautioning consumers about the sugar and calories that are often found in these products. They suggest seeking out beverage options that contain natural, nutritious ingredients instead of caloric options. It remains to be seen how well these autumn items will sell this year, but in the meantime consumers can enjoy the new flavor of the season.
