GOP reps call for more overtime pay for Border Patrol agents tackling ongoing migrant crisis

There is bipartisan support in Congress for providing overtime pay for Border Patrol agents working to address the ongoing migrant crisis. According to John Katko (R-NY), the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, Border Patrol agents are struggling to handle the influx of migrants, and they need the extra income. Supporters of additional overtime pay point to the challenges Border Patrol agents face with an increasingly overwhelming number of migrants, often in dangerous and difficult conditions. They believe that additional pay will help motivate agents, reduce staff turnover, and address the challenges of the ongoing migrant crisis. In addition, both sides of the aisle agree that in order to ensure safety of both agents and migrants, additional resources and personnel are needed.
