Italy’s PM Meloni champions ‘family values.’ But critics say she’s doing little to protect women from violence

or tackle inequality
Prime Minister Meloni has been vocal in her commitment to "family values," pushing for legislation that would restrict access to abortion, restrict LGBT rights, and promote exclusionary religious beliefs. However, her record on protecting women from violence and tackling gender inequality has been highly criticized. Women's rights groups have highlighted the lack of government action in providing adequate resources for victims of domestic abuse, the continued prevalence of violence against women, and the lack of progress in closing the gender pay gap. In addition, her actions regarding support for her coalition partner, the right-wing League party, have been seen as a betrayal of her commitment to family values, with certain members of the party actively promoting racism, xenophobia, and intolerance.
