McDonald’s plans to eliminate self-service soda stations at all its restaurants

McDonald’s announced plans in May 2021 to eliminate self-service soda stations at all their restaurants by the end of 2021 in an effort to cut back on the spread of germs. The announcement came as the Golden Arches works to reduce contact between customers and staff. Instead, people will have to either order their soda at the counter, or order via the restaurant’s mobile app. Additionally, the company announced a plan to reduce the use of McFlurry spoons. The company hopes that the removal of self-service soda stations, combined with fewer spoons, will help reduce the spread of germs and increase safety for both customers and staff.
