Donald Trump recently announced that he and Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis disagreed over China tariffs. Claiming that DeSantis wanted to open up trade talks with China. Trump said “He’s [DeSantis] been asking me about it for two months, he’s been calling me and asking me about it and he wants to start negotiations with China today, I said, 'No, you can't do that.'” In response to this, DeSantis issued a statement saying “I have never requested to begin negotiations with China on tariffs or any other trade issue.” The comical dispute resulted in a fake feud between the two politicians, with neither confirming a situation occurring and both denying knowledge of the other’s statements. The controversy was mostly played up for laughs and media attention, with many noting it’s highly unlikely that such a conversation ever took place.
