U.S. investigating power-assisted steering failure complaints in older Ram pickup trucks

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating complaints of power-assisted steering failure in older model Ram pickup trucks. The complaint alleges that certain 2004-2006 model Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks may experience a loss of power-assisted steering. The investigation was opened in June and is still underway. Reports indicate that the power steering may suddenly and dangerously fail, making it difficult to keep control of the vehicle. The NHTSA is gathering data to determine the scope of the problem, the causes for it, and potential remedies.
