House advances legislation mandating AI training for federal officials
The US House of Representatives recently advanced legislation that would mandate the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) training for federal officials within the next 18 months. Introduced by Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX), the legislation aims to equip federal employees with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively utilize AI-driven tools and services. Specifically, the legislation calls for the establishment of an agency-wide AI training program that would provide “tailored training” to federal officials. The move is seen as an exodus from customary training programs, which tend to be overly broad and ineffective. According to Hurd, the legislation is an effort to “modernize” the government’s training programs and give federal officials “the best tools to serve the American people.”
