Key House Freedom Caucus member predicts McCarthy to break promise on omnibus bill
Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), a key member in the House Freedom Caucus, has predicted that House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy will break his promise not to put an omnibus spending bill before the House. McCarthy had previously promised to break from the practice of legislation being bundled together in massive spending bills, and instead prioritize breaking out different spending issues into separate, smaller bills. However, Meadows is skeptical that McCarthy will follow through on this promise, especially with the looming possibility of a government shutdown if Congress fails to pass a spending bill by December 7. Meadows has urged Republican leaders to abide by their promises and follow regular order when it comes to the appropriations process.
