Recalled cucumbers linked to at least 449 illnesses have been pulled from stores, CDC says
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that cucumbers linked to at least 449 illnesses have been recalled and removed from stores. According to the CDC, the cucumbers were infected with Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause severe and potentially fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications can include severe arthritis. Authorities are urging consumers to discard or return any cucumbers that may be part of the recall.
